Staff benefits

Staff benefits

We are an NHS People Promise exemplar organisation. The themes and words that make up Our People Promise come from those who work in the NHS.

It aims to make the health service a better place to work by focusing on seven key pillars: compassion and inclusion, recognition and reward, having a voice, safety and health, continuous learning, flexible working, and teamwork.

Benefits of working for the NHS include up to 12 months’ sickness benefit, enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay, shared parental leave, NHS Pension Scheme, ill-health retirement benefit, a lease car scheme for eligible staff and discount schemes such as the Blue Light Card and gym memberships).

Equity, diversity and inclusion

Equity, diversity and inclusion

Our approach to building an inclusive culture includes channels for staff to speak up about any concerns, reverse and reciprocal mentoring programmes, EDI recruitment reps and ring-fenced funding for the career development of minority staff.

Staff networks and groups provide a platform for addressing specific concerns and providing peer support.

We have a vibrant MTWProud Network, a supportive DisAbility Network, a trailblazing Cultural and Ethnic Minorities Network, Women’s Network and Armed Forces Network

Our support groups also cover neurodiversity, carers, parents, menopause, men's health, clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV) staff, as well as those living with chronic pain, and living with cancer.

If you don’t belong to these minority groups, you can be an ally – you just need to be able to listen, support and take action to ensure that people are treated with fairness, kindness and respect.

Your learning and development

We are committed to the ongoing development of clinical and non-clinical staff, investing in supporting staff on their career and development journeys.

Extensive training opportunities are available including apprenticeships and our Exceptional Leaders programme.

Academic centres, lecture theatres and library services at our hospitals promote a positive learning environment where colleagues can study and learn.
