What we do
We understand it is a difficult and often emotional time when your child is in hospital and want to do all we can to put you at ease.
Our children’s service is kind, caring, compassionate and supportive with nurses, doctors and allied health professionals looking after children and young people from birth to 16 years old.
We want to make sure your child is as comfortable as possible during their stay and that you are given all the information you need.
A team of allied health professionals and specialist nurses support the units. We also have health play specialists who enable children and young people to play, learn and discover while in hospital.
They have an important role in the preparation of the child for procedures, distraction and allowing parents and carers a support network for their child whilst in hospital.

At Tunbridge Wells Hospital we have Hedgehog Ward (for inpatients), Woodlands Assessment Unit, Treetops Day Surgery Unit, Children’s Outpatients, a 24 hour Paediatric A&E Department and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Services at Maidstone Hospital include Riverbank Assessment Unit, Children’s Outpatients and a Paediatric A&E Department.

Supporting young people’s mental health

If you are 10-25 years and want to chat to someone about your mental health, Emerge Advocacy team are there to help 10 to 25-year olds during and after attending A&E.
Outpatients
There are children's outpatient departments at Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone hospitals. A paediatrician or specialist doctor conduct review and follow-up appointments with children and young people in our outpatient units.
The units are open from 9am until 5pm, five days a week.
