On 22 June, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW) gathered outside Tunbridge Wells Hospital to mark Armed Forces Day and the start of Armed Forces Week (22-28 June) with a special flag raising ceremony.
The event is held annually to recognise the dedication and sacrifices made by those who serve, or have served, in the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force.
It also recognises the wider armed forces community including families, veterans, and reservists.
The short ceremony was joined by representatives from MTW’s Armed Forces Staff Network and Chief Medical Officer, Dr Sara Mumford.
This week provides a vital opportunity to show appreciation and reflect on the close ties MTW shares with the armed forces.
The Trust is proud to employ many colleagues who are veterans, reservists, cadet force adult volunteers, or who support loved ones in service.
Reserves Day, which takes place during Armed Forces Week, is also an opportunity to recognise the vital contribution of reservists who balance military service with their civilian careers.
It focusses on the skills, commitment and experience they bring to organisations like MTW, in their clinical roles and as part of the wider armed forces community.
As part of our celebrations to mark Reserves Day, two colleagues — Healthcare Support Worker, Charlotte Jones and Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr Chun Tang — have shared their experiences as reservists and members of our Armed Forces community.
