About
Professor Ramon Andrade de Mello MD, MBA, PhD, FACP is an internationally recognised consultant medical oncologist at the Kent Oncology Centre (part of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust) with over two decades of global clinical and academic expertise.
Specialising in thoracic and gastrointestinal malignancies, including colorectal, hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB), and gastric cancers, he is fiercely committed to delivering evidence-based, precision-driven, and patient-centred care.
His prestigious academic and clinical foundation includes a medical degree from the Federal University of Ceará, Brazil, and specialist medical oncology training at the Portuguese Oncology Institute in Porto, Portugal.
Holding a PhD in Molecular Oncology from the University of Porto, Professor De Mello advanced his sub-specialty expertise through a clinical research fellowship at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in London.
Prior to his appointment at MTW, he served as Consultant Medical Oncologist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and held the role of Honorary Senior Clinical Researcher at the University of Oxford.
A prominent figure in global oncology, he holds the title of Visiting Professor at the Kent and Medway Medical School and Professor of Medical Oncology at Universidade Nove de Julho (UNINOVE) in São Paulo, Brazil.
Elected as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), Professor De Mello has authored over 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications. His translational research focuses on predictive biomarkers, precision oncology, and novel immunotherapies, actively bridging the gap between laboratory discovery and frontline patient care.
He has served on the faculty for both the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).
Currently, he acts as a Scientific Advisor for the European School of Oncology, Vice-President of the Brazilian Society of Cancerology (2024–2028), and sits on the editorial boards of prominent journals including PLOS One and Oncology Reviews. He is also the editor of five major medical textbooks, including the Medical Oncology Compendium (Elsevier, 2025).
