About

Dr Laura Petzold obtained a degree in medicine in 2003 from the University of Utrecht, in the Netherlands. This included training periods in Paramaribo, Surinam and at the old Kent and Sussex Hospital.

She completed her specialist neurology training at the Free University in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, retaining a special interest in multiple sclerosis.

Dr Petzold was awarded a PhD for her research contribution, titled ‘the role of interferon beta in Multiple Sclerosis’ with the Multiple Sclerosis Unit at the Free University in Amsterdam. 

She has publishing a number of articles in scientific medical journals. During her research period, she participated in clinical trials for the development of multiple sclerosis drugs.

Dr Petzold was appointed as a consultant neurologist at the Trust in 2016, and sees patient in all areas of general neurology (such as headache, epilepsy, tremor and Parkinson’s disease).

She leads the local MS service in close cooperation with the regional MS workgroup (SELKAMS) and the neuroscience centre at King’s College Hospital in London.

She is Undergraduate Lead Clinical Supervisor role for Neurology at the Kent and Medway Medical School.
