About

Mr Alistair Laidlaw’s undergraduate and initial ophthalmology training were in Newcastle Upon Tyne. 

Following this he trained in Bristol and then Moorfields Eye Hospital before taking up a consultant appointment between St Thomas’ Hospital in London and Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 1998. 

Mr Laidlaw is a specialist vitreoretinal surgeon and is actively involved in the teaching and training of vitreoretinal surgeons.

He has published more than 50 research papers and in 2014 was elected President of the British & Eire Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons and is a member of the Executive of the European Retinal Society (EURETINA), having been President of the EURETINA Board 2021-23.
