About

Dr John Friis qualified with a Bachelor of Medical Sciences (First Class Honours) 2000, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery 2002 from the University of Nottingham.

He subsequently trained in anaesthesia in the Greater London area and Cambridge including the following centres of excellence: King’s College Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital, Royal Papworth Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital, Guy’s Hospital, and St Thomas’ Hospital.

He was a consultant in anaesthesia at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals with a specialist interest in cardiac anaesthesia from 2013 until 2017.

During this period, Dr Friis undertook an overseas sabbatical and worked as a consultant in anaesthesia in RIPAS Hospital, Brunei in 2015.

He joined the Trust in 2020 as a consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine.

His clinical interests include peri-operative and critical care ultrasound and echocardiography, and medical ethics.
