Paul Blaker
Dr Blaker joined the Trust as a consultant gastroenterologist and general physician in September 2014.
Before this, he completed eight years in training as a specialist registrar in gastroenterology and general medicine in London and the south east.
During a four year placement at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London, Dr Blaker developed his sub-specialist interest in the management of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), gaining a PhD investigating factors responsible for inter-individual variation in response to thiopurine drugs.
He has published extensively on the subject and continues to have an active research interest in this area.
Dr Blaker’s main clinical interests are the diagnosis and management of luminal gastroenterological disorders, diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, and his sub-specialist interest is the management of inflammatory bowel diseases and immunosuppression.
He is a JAG-approved endoscopy trainer. He has previously been the lead for the IBD team and the Deputy Chief of Medicine and Emergency Care. Before this he was Clinical Director for Medical Specialties and Medical Site Lead at Tunbridge Wells Hospital.
