Maidstone Hospital League of Friends (LoF) aims to provide a link between the hospital and the community it serves, and supports the hospital in any way possible.
The Maidstone Hospital branch is very active, providing many thousands of pounds each year to purchase items of equipment which cannot be funded by the Trust.
Over the last 10 years the League of Friends has funded equipment for the Maidstone Hospital in excess of £2,078,000. From May 2017 to December 2018 funding via the League of Friends has purchased equipment including bladder scanners, intensive care chair and vital signs monitor.
The League of Friends’ main source of income is the profit from the hospital shop, which is located in the main entrance, and offers an extensive range of toiletries, sleepwear, stationery and greeting cards, confectionery, sandwiches, fruit, soft drinks and ice cream, newspapers and magazines and much more. The ward trolleys and clinic trolley provide a service for patients and visitors Monday – Friday and the LoF Tea Bar situated in the Eye Clinic is open 10.00-4.00pm, Monday to Friday.
The LoF Book Shop, situated off the Main Reception, is also a valuable source of income and is popular with patients, staff and visitors. In addition generous legacies and other small donations are received too.
General fundraising is part of the League’s activities, including the Annual Summer Fete and prize draw, a quiz night twice a year, coffee mornings, cake sales and a Christmas Bazaar. The success of all these activities depends entirely on voluntary helpers and the support of the general public.
