If you would like to test for STIs, you can choose to be tested at one of our clinics, or order a home testing kit.
To be tested at one of our clinics, please call 0300 373 0709 and book an appointment. You can find more information about what to expect at a screening appointment here.
If you’d prefer to have a test sent to you at home, please visit our online STI testing service at www.kent.sh.uk, for free, easy to access and confidential testing on behalf of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
The home testing service is available to people aged 16 and over who are residents in Kent, and provides testing for a range of sexually transmitted infections including chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and hepatitis C via samples you can collect at home. Once you have registered with SH.UK, you’ll be asked a few questions to make sure the service offers the most appropriate tests and services available.
If you are under the age of 16 please see our Young person services page.
When should I test?
- Testing for chlamydia and gonorrhoea should be done two weeks after an episode of unprotected sex in those without symptoms or sooner if you have symptoms of discharge.
- Testing for HIV should be done six and a half weeks after an episode of unprotected sex if being tested in clinic or from 12 weeks if using our online testing service via SHUK. Test sooner if you have any symptoms of fever, rash and sore throat.
- Testing for syphilis should be done twelve weeks after an episode of unprotected sex or sooner if you have any symptoms of rash, or sores on your genitals, bottom or mouth.
