Our Emergency Departments (ED) are research active with opportunities to get involved.
DRAFT3 CASP
The DRAFT3-CASP study is looking at the comparison for treating distal radius fractures with plaster casts or wrist splints. Participants will be asked to go through several questionnaires before, during and after their treatment has ended.
ToTs
Toddlers’ fractures (non-displaced spiral fractures of the tibia) are common in young children after a fall or twisting injury. The ToTs study looks at the comparison between immobilisation (such as casts or walking boots) and non-immobilisation.
How to get involved
Our Critical Care Research team cover three specialties: the Emergency Department (ED); anaesthetics, peri-operative, medicine and pain (APOMP); and intensive care (ITU), and have a successful portfolio of studies.
If you are interested in participating in research and would like some more information about the studies we are supporting, contact the Critical Care Research team at mtw-tr.criticalcare-research@nhs.net.
Previous research in emergency care
CoMiTED
A collapsed lung (also known as a ‘pneumothorax’) can occur following trauma such as falls, road traffic accidents or knife injuries. The CoMiTED study was comparing different treatment options for a collapsed lung. Results coming soon.
UnCoRKED
The UnCoRKED study also aims to come up with a standard definition for escalation area and corridor care. This work will be important for future research into how patient outcomes are affected by experiencing escalation area and corridor care.
