Before any planned surgery, pre-operative assessments make sure patients are ready for their procedure.
Before any appointment, a health questionnaire will be sent to you by email. Make sure we have your email address, and complete the questionnaire when it arrives in your inbox. Your answers will help us decide if you need any further tests.
For some patients, this will save a trip to hospital, or mean a shorter appointment. This means we can see more people and make sure you are ready for your procedure, which can help improve your recovery.
If you need help completing the questionnaire, call the number on your appointment letter.
If we decide you need an appointment, this can take 30 to 90 minutes. It will help us make sure each patient is suitable for the planned anaesthetic. You will also be able to discuss any concerns and ask questions during your appointment.
We will ask you to bring your medicines, in their original boxes, or your most recent prescription with you. We will discuss your medicines and tell you if you can carry on taking them until your surgery date.
If you have been seen in another hospital that isn’t part of our trust, please bring your discharge summary or any letters with you.
If you need an interpreter please call the Clinical Administration Unit (the number is on your appointment letter) so arrangements can be made. Your family members or friends cannot be interpreters for you.
If you or your relative have any additional needs, please call the clinic at the hospital where your appointment is happening, so extra time can be allowed, if needed.
If we decide you need further investigations before your surgery, we may need to change your operation date.
If you do not attend your appointment your operation may be cancelled. If you cannot make your appointment, please let us know so it can be given to another patient, and we can arrange a new date for you.
