Having surgery can be a stressful experience. The Pre-operative Assessment Clinic provides a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where you can be prepared physically, psychologically and socially for their operation and their discharge from hospital.
Our expert staff meet with every patient to examine them and ensure that they are ready for their elective surgery or procedure. This can take from 30 to 90 minutes. The assessment also ensures each patient is suitable for the proposed anaesthetic.
We ask you to bring your medicines, in their original boxes or your most recent prescription, with you to your appointment. We will discuss your medicines and you will be informed as to whether these can be continued up to the surgery date.
If you have been seen in another hospital that isn’t part of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, please bring along your discharge summary or any correspondence you have.
You may need further investigations arranged before your surgery, so your operation date may need to change.
You will have an opportunity to discuss any concerns you have during your appointment.
If an interpreter is required please call the Clinical Administration Unit to let them know so arrangements can be made. The telephone number for the unit can be found on your appointment letter. We do not allow family members or friends to be used as an interpreter.
If you or your relative have any additional needs, please call the Pre-operative Assessment Clinic Sister at the hospital where your appointment is happening, so extra time can be allowed, if needed.
Failure to attend your appointment may mean your operation is cancelled.
