Professor Ramon Andrade de Mello is a Consultant Medical Oncologist with over 20 years of international clinical and academic experience.
He specialises in thoracic (lung) and gastrointestinal cancers – including colorectal, hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB), and gastric malignancies – and is dedicated to providing evidence-based, patient-centred care.
Training and experience
Professor de Mello obtained his medical degree from the Federal University of Ceará, Brazil (recognised by the University of Lisbon), and completed his specialist training in medical oncology at the Portuguese Oncology Institute in Porto.
He holds a PhD in Molecular Oncology from the University of Porto and further honed his expertise through a clinical research fellowship at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in London.
Before joining MTW, he was Consultant Medical Oncologist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and held the position of Honorary Senior Clinical Researcher at the University of Oxford. He is also a Professor of Medical Oncology at Nine of July University (UNINOVE) in São Paulo, Brazil.
Research and publications
Beyond clinical practice, Professor de Mello is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and has authored over 200 scientific publications. His research interests focus on biomarkers, precision oncology and immunotherapy, ensuring his patients have access to the latest advancements in cancer treatment.
He has served as a faculty member for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). Currently, he acts as a Scientific Advisor for the European School of Oncology and is Vice-President of the Brazilian Society of Cancerology (2024–2028).
He also serves on the editorial boards of several reputable journals, including PLOS One and Oncology Reviews. He is the editor of five books, including the Medical Oncology Compendium (Elsevier, 2025).
