Mr Daniel Lawes BSc (Hons) MBBS, MD, FRCS has been a consultant at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust since 2007 and is Chief of Service for the Surgery Division.
He specialises in colorectal and laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery, with interests in colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, hernia repair, and pelvic floor disorders.
Mr Lawes qualified from University College London (UCL) Medical School in 1993, earning a BSc in Physiology and later an MD for research into genetic predisposition to colorectal cancer.
His surgical training included posts at UCL, The Royal London, St Bartholomew’s, and St Mark’s Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, Arizona, where he was appointed Assistant Professor.
At MTW, Mr Lawes has led innovations such as minimally invasive colorectal surgery, enhanced recovery programmes, and the pelvic floor service.
He has held roles including Clinical Director for Surgery, Lead for Colorectal Surgery, Chair of the Kent & Medway Colorectal Cancer Group, and NIHR Lead for Colorectal Research in Kent, Surrey & Sussex. He has authored over 60 scientific letters, papers and book chapters.
