Professional Profile
Dr Navaratne qualified in 1992 from The London Hospital Medical School and has been working in sexual health since 1995. She completed her Specialist Training in Genito-Urinary Medicine and HIV at St Thomas’ Hospital, London and has been a Consultant at The Rubin Clinic, Department of GUM, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW) since 2010.
As Clinical lead for GUM and HIV services at MTW her main interest is in providing care for HIV positive patients as part of a multidisciplinary team in the hospital and within local prisons. She also has a special interest in management of recurrent genital infections and genital dermatology.
She has actively promoted chlamydia screening and HIV testing through outreach testing campaigns in including ‘high street; awareness campaigns, sexual health testing in prisons, army barracks and educational colleges and GUM services were awarded Innovation team of the Year in 2013.
More recently she has become Clinical Lead for West Kent Integrated sexual health service (WKISH) providing contraception as well as sexual health and HIV services bringing services together to support better patient care working through extending services into the community, longer hours of access and development of multi skilled and trained staff.
Dr Navaratne lectures on the MTW NHS Trust Postgraduate Medical Educational and participates regularly in General Practice educational programmes. She is on the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV register as a STI Foundation course director as well as an STI Assessment lead and intermediate competency trainer.
