Professional Profile
Dr Benjamin Hunter graduated from Manchester University Medical School in 2011 with an intercalated MRes in cancer research. After completing academic foundation training and core medical training at South Manchester University Hospital and The Christie Hospital, he moved to London in 2015 to take up an Academic Clinical Fellowship in Clinical Oncology.
He received his Oncology training at The Royal Surrey County Hospital, The Royal Marsden Hospital and Imperial College Healthcare Trust and became a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in 2018. He was awarded a PGDip in Oncology by the University of London during this time.
Dr Hunter has a research interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, predictive modelling and radiomics. He undertook a CRUK-funded data science PhD at Imperial College London and graduated in 2023. He has been awarded a number of research grants including an RM Partners pre-doctoral fellowship, a CRUK PhD fellowship and Royal Marsden Hospital BRC post-doctoral funding.
He won the Mel Greaves science writing prize in 2017. Dr Hunter has a number of publications on artificial intelligence in Oncology (The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Early Cancer Diagnosis – PMC (nih.gov)).
Dr Hunter joined Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 2024 as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialising in the management of head and neck cancers. Outside of work he enjoys playing guitar, reading and spending time with his children.
