Last week, colleagues from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Tunbridge Wells Hospital were selected to present at the Intensive Care Society‘s State of the Art Congress.

The congress is the largest event for intensive care in the UK and one of the largest multi-professional meetings in Europe.

The team, including Senior Sister, Lucy Gosnell, Consultant Anaesthetist, Dr Shadi Pishbin, Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist for Critical Care, Lizzie Allen and Respiratory Team Lead Physiotherapist, Claire Coombes, presented a poster on the unit’s journey to receiving HU-CI Certification of Good Practices in the Humanisation of Intensive Care, which was awarded with a rating of “Excellent”.

Tunbridge Wells ICU was the first unit in the country to receive the accreditation, with a multidisciplinary team including psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, dietitians, nurses and doctors working together to formalise practices and deliver a consistent, rehabilitation-focussed approach to patient care.

The certification was presented to the team at an event held at Tunbridge Wells Hospital in earlier this year.
