The West Kent Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) has ranked in the top ten in the country for the number of tests delivered, in data released as part of the 10 Year Health Plan for England.

The Centre has delivered over 188,000 tests to patients since the first unit opened in November 2023, ranking it in the top ten nationally and the third highest out of 29 in the south east. Almost 98% of patients rate the service as ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’, with many mentioning speed of service, helpful staff and modern facilities in their feedback.

Located close to Maidstone Hospital, the CDC offers a range of diagnostic tests away from a hospital setting. The first phase of the Centre, Unit A, was officially opened by the then Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Victoria Atkins MP, and delivers X-ray, DEXA, ultrasound, respiratory and cardiology tests.

The newly opened Hounsfield Unit completed the Centre, and houses MRI, CT and blood testing.

The Government’s 10-year plan for the NHS prioritises moving care into the community and highlights the importance of services such as community diagnostic centres in making this possible.

Miles Scott, Chief Executive, said: “I’m really proud that our CDC has been ranked so highly for its productivity. This is a great achievement for our team, who work incredibly hard to make sure our patients get quicker access to the tests they need. Diagnosis is the first vital step in patient care, and by speeding this up, the team is supporting patients to get the right treatment as quickly as possible.”

Jelena Pochin, Divisional Director of Operations for Core Clinical Services said: “We are proud of the outstanding care our teams continue to deliver at the West Kent Diagnostic Centre, and the difference their work is making to patient experience.

“The CDC is helping to make vital tests more accessible for patients, reducing waiting times and ensuring patients receive a quicker diagnosis and treatment. Thank you to all of the teams who are maintaining an efficient, professional and friendly service at the CDC.”
