Mildred Johnson, Chief Pharmacist and Clinical Director of Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW), has been designated a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), a professional organisation for pharmacists in Great Britain, leads the pharmacy profession by setting professional standards, publishing medicines information and supporting pharmacy professionals across the UK.
According to the RPS, ‘fellowship is awarded to members who have made an outstanding original contribution to the advancement of pharmaceutical knowledge or attended distinction in the science, practice, profession or history of pharmacy’.
Mildred has a career in pharmacy spanning almost three decades, working in hospitals and specialist medical settings. Since her appointment at MTW in 2017, Mildred’s contributions to MTW have included leading the introduction of Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) which transformed ways of working, improved patient safety and gave clinical staff more time to spend with patients.
Reflecting on her achievement, Mildred said: “I am honoured to have been awarded fellowship of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, and to have been recognised by my peers for my contribution to the profession. I am grateful to MTW for their support, and to all the colleagues I have worked with across my career. Pharmacy plays a key role in supporting patient care, and to be a fellow of the RPS who lead in this field is a real honour. I look forward to many more years working in Pharmacy and supporting future innovations to improve patient care.”
Outside her role at MTW, Mildred is an Independent Expert Member for the United Kingdom Pharmacy Professional Leadership Advisory Board (UKPPLAB), and contributes to national developments in Pharmacy by regularly speaking at conferences and webinars, and publishing articles.
Miles Scott, Chief Executive Officer at MTW, said: “I want to congratulate Mildred on her appointment as a fellow – this is a wonderful achievement. Mildred has led several transformative improvements in Pharmacy at MTW, and I know she really inspires our high-performing Pharmacy teams.”
