The Trust’s Medical Director, Dr Sara Mumford, has been presented with a Senior Fellowship by the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM).

Dr Mumford received the award at the FMLM annual conference in Manchester at the end of March. The recognition demonstrates Dr Mumford’s commitment to medical leadership and its importance in delivering outstanding care for patients.

Fellowship of the FMLM is recognition for high performing and effective medical leaders, benchmarking them against the national Leadership and Management Standards for Medical Professionals. The Senior Fellowship is awarded to UK-based members of the Faculty who are established medical leaders with a least two years’ experience at Board or system level, and have made a significant contribution to leadership and management in the health sector.

Dr Mumford joins an elite group of just over 200 medical leaders who have been awarded Fellowships of FMLM at multiple levels since 2016. Dr Mumford said: “I’m really proud to have been awarded the Senior Fellowship of the FMLM. I’m looking forward to using my experience to encourage medical leadership across the Trust.”

Chief Executive at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW), Miles Scott, said: “The FMLM’s Senior Fellowship recognises influence and leadership not just at a local level, but at a system and national level too. Dr Mumford’s recent award is testament to the leadership skills she has demonstrated at the Trust and recognises the significant contribution she has made not only to MTW, but also to the wider healthcare system.

“Effective leadership leads to staff feeling more engaged, and empowers them to identify any areas of improvement. This in turn results in stronger organisational performance and better patient outcomes, ultimately benefitting both staff and patients.

“Dr Mumford is a credit to the Trust, and her award highlights that our core value of exceptional people providing outstanding care is at the heart of everything we do.”
