At the beginning of February the UK mourned the loss of Captain Sir Tom Moore, who raised £32.8m for NHS Charities Together by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday – breaking the Guinness World Record for an individual’s charity walk and inspiring a nation.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Charity has paid tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore by sharing how grants from NHS Charities Together have been supporting NHS patients, staff and volunteers in West Kent.

  • Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Charitable Fund has received £179,600 to date from NHS Charities Together’s COVID-19 Appeal. These grants will provide support for a range of staff welfare projects.
  • Captain Sir Tom Moore became a Guinness World Record holder after raising £32.8m (£39.3m with Gift Aid) for NHS Charities Together’s COVID-19 Appeal – the most money raised by an individual for a charity walk

Miles Scott, Chief Executive of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, said: “Captain Sir Tom Moore was a complete inspiration to us all and we are grateful for the amazing fundraising he did to support NHS charities like ours. Our staff have worked so incredibly hard throughout the pandemic and these vital funds will allow us to support their health and wellbeing in a range of ways.”

The support of NHS charities will be crucial in the years ahead as the NHS recovers from the most challenging period in its history.
