Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW) is delighted to announce that it has been shortlisted for the Acute or Specialist Service Redesign Initiative – London and the South at this year’s HSJ Awards, recognising their outstanding contribution to healthcare.

The judging panel, made up of a diverse range of highly influential and respected figures within the healthcare community, shortlisted MTW despite the tough competition from hundreds of excellent applicants. The Improving Patient Flow project has been selected based on the ambition, visionary spirit and the demonstrable positive impact that their project has had on patient and staff experiences within the healthcare sector.

MTW has made significant improvements over the past year to improve how it cares for and treats patients using its emergency care services. It is now one of the top ten performing trusts in the country.

The innovative measures introduced include extending the use of ambulatory services and frailty units, securing beds in the community to care for patients waiting for social services support, working collaboratively with partners to support suitable patients to return home to finish their acute care via the new Hospital @ Home scheme and improving the efficiency of operating theatres and outpatient clinics.

Lynn Gray, Deputy Chief Operating Officer at MTW, said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for an HSJ award. It recognises the collaborative efforts and dedication of our staff members over the last 12 months to successfully improve our emergency care services. We are committed to delivering improved outcomes for our patients, and to be chosen among the other incredible nominees is a wonderful achievement.  This nomination has been a tremendous boost to staff at MTW and I am sure it will bolster our continued efforts to improve our services.

HSJ editor Alistair Mclellan, comments “We would like to congratulate MTW on being nominated in the category of Acute or Specialist Service Redesign Initiative – London and the South ahead of this year’s 2019 HSJ awards. We are looking forward to welcoming them to the ceremony in November, to join us in recognising the very best achievements and innovations in the healthcare sector. The entrants this year have been of incredible calibre, and each of the finalists in this category have been chosen based on their outstanding commitment to excellence in healthcare.”
