Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW) recently welcomed the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Jeremy Hunt.

Mr Hunt attended Tunbridge Wells Hospital for an hour on the morning of Friday 2 February as part of his programme of informal and routine visits to hospitals around the country.

Staff had the opportunity to hear about the Government’s focus on patient care and safety, and quality improvement, in an informative presentation from Mr Hunt.

MTW Chief Executive, Miles Scott, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Jeremy Hunt to our Trust.

“His visit gave us the opportunity to highlight to Mr Hunt the excellent work we’ve been undertaking across our Trust to continually improve the care and treatment we provide to our patients.”

Mr Hunt heard how staff at MTW have:

• Reduced severe perineal trauma for women giving birth
• Achieved excellent standards in infection control

In addition, the Trust outlined plans to develop a culture of continuous improvement to deliver the very best in quality and safe patient care.

Following his visit, Mr Hunt said: “‎I saw first-hand how well established the no-blame culture is at Tunbridge Wells—the single most important factor to patient safety. Staff were enthusiastic about their continuous effort to lower rates of infection which underpins their dedication to patients.”
