You Said, We Listened

Following a recent survey carried out by both Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS trust and Kent Online News, results showed that 75% of patients attending outpatient appointments would be happy to undertake their consultations via video appointment instead of traditional face to face appointments.

Video Consultation Appointments (VCA) is an alternative way to provide outpatient appointments. VCA offers another way to consult with a patient by video either at their home, or at any other appropriate location, with the aim to reduce patient travel and the associated expense. VCA is an option for those patients deemed clinically appropriate by their Clinician, if also accepted by the patient, to replace their existing face to face appointments. Use of VCA within the relevant services is about offering patients a choice of receiving their consultations differently.

Currently, a small number of eligible patients can choose whether they wish to attend their clinic appointment in person or try out the online video consultation.  We are getting their feedback to see if it improves the experience for patients and should be made available for more people. The specialties currently piloting this are as below:

  • Sexual Health
  • Emergency Department
  • Diabetes and Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology and Hepatitis
  • Cardiology

If you have agreed to attend your clinic appointment via a video consultation appointment, we will schedule your appointment as normal and send you details of the appointment via your chosen correspondence method. On the date and time of your appointment you can enter the virtual clinic via the relevant speciality link below.

Please note: only patients who have undertaken a discussion with their clinician about meeting the criteria to undertake a Virtual Clinic Appointment (VCA), and received confirmation from Maidstone and Tunbridge Well NHS Trust of a Video Clinic Appointment (VCA) will be able to access the use of Video Clinic portal – all other patients should attend their appointment as usual.
