Vitreoretinal surgery (retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, complex cataract surgery), medical retina (diabetes, vascular disorders, age related macular degeneration) cataract surgery and general ophthalmology.

Professional Profile

Mr Tim Cochrane trained in medicine in Queen’s University, Belfast and in then ophthalmology in the Northern Ireland training scheme.

He undertook two fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery; firstly in Reading and Windsor in 2012 and subsequently in St Thomas’s Hospital, London in 2013.

He was awarded the Elizabeth Hunt Medal for first place in the UK MRCOphth Part 2 examination in 2005. He started as a consultant in MTW in 2014 re-developing the cataract service at Tunbridge Wells Hospital and as a member of the vitreoretinal team at Maidstone Hospital.

Mr Cochrane is currently the College Tutor for Kent, Surrey and Sussex deanery trainees in ophthalmology at the trust. He has previously held roles as departmental lead for cataract surgery and was co-clinical lead for ophthalmology during the COVID pandemic.

He is an active member of the British and Eire Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons and contributes to their ongoing research in retinal detachment surgery and macular hole surgery.
