Professional Profile

Dr Gemma McCormick undertook her pre-clinical medical studies at the University of Cambridge and completed her clinical training at Guy’s, Kings and St Thomas’ Medical School in 2009.

During Foundation and Core Medical Training in Kent and London she completed her MRCP examinations. She was selected for the Clinical Oncology training programme in 2014, beginning her specialist training at Kent Oncology Centre. This was followed by posts at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and The Royal Marsden hospitals.

In addition to passing her fellowship examinations (FRCR) she also completed an MSc in Oncology during her training programme. Dr McCormick returned to the Kent Oncology Centre as a consultant in August 2021, treating patients with breast and thyroid cancers.

She has an interest in medical ethics, completing a Postgraduate certificate in Medical Ethics and Law in 2013, and has joined the Trust’s Ethics Committee.

Dr McCormick is Chair of the West Kent Thyroid MDM and has developed a new specialist radiotherapy clinic for patients with breast cancer which both streamlines the referral process and improves the patient experience. She has an active role in breast cancer research, as principal investigator of several clinical trials.

Married, with two young sons, she enjoys running and cycling. She makes time for regular trips back to her homeland of Northern Ireland to visit family.
