Diabetes and Endocrinology
Dr Perera graduated from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1995 with MBBS second class honours degree. She completed her postgraduate training in Sri Lanka in 2001 with MD medicine. She proceeded to the UK in 2002 and completed her MRCP in London in 2003 before moving to the London deanery to embark upon higher specialist training in diabetes and endocrinology. She was granted dual accreditation in diabetes, endocrinology and general internal medicine in December 2009. She has been working as a consultant physician since March 2010 and was appointed as a consultant in diabetes, endocrinology and acute medicine at Maidstone hospital from 1st April 2014.
Dr Perera’s clinical interests include thyroid, pituitary, adrenal, gonadal and calcium disorders with special interest in female reproductive endocrinology. She is the lead for diabetic foot disease at Maidstone hospital and is also interested in weight loss and GLP1 analogues, type 1 diabetes with special focus on young adults and education for type 1 diabetes. She is DAFNE trained.
