Professional Profile

Dr Mumford is a consultant microbiologist and completed her specialist training at Charing Cross Hospital and William Harvey Hospital.

Previous posts have included Consultant Microbiologist at William Harvey Hospital and Consultant in communicable disease control at Kent Health Protection Unit

Dr Mumford’s particular interest is in infection prevention, infectious diseases and medical management.

She was appointed as Director of Infection Prevention and Control at MTW in 2007 following the outbreak of C. difficile in 2006. Dr Mumford led the turnaround in infection control across the Trust which resulted in a 94% reduction in C. difficile infection and a 96% reduction in MRSA bacteraemia since 2006. She continues to lead the Infection Prevention strategy for the Trust and the ongoing reduction in healthcare associated infections. In 2014 the Infection Prevention team were placed second overall and best acute Trust in the Infection Prevention Society Team of the Year awards.

Dr Mumford was appointed as Clinical Director of Diagnostics, Pharmacy and Therapies in 2012. She is leading the pathology transformation project for Kent in partnership with East Kent Hospitals.
