Professional Profile
Dr Blaker joined the Trust as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Physician in September 2014. Prior to this he completed eight years in training as a Specialist Registrar in Gastroenterology and General Medicine in London and the South East.
During a four year placement at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London, Dr Blaker developed his sub-specialist interest in the management of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), gaining a PhD investigating factors responsible for inter-individual variation in response to thiopurine drugs. He has published extensively on the subject and continues to have an active research interest in this area.
Dr Blaker’s main clinical interests are the diagnosis and management of luminal gastroenterological disorders, diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, and his sub-specialist interest is the management of inflammatory bowel diseases and immunosuppression. He is a JAG approved endoscopy trainer. He is currently the lead for the IBD team and the Deputy Chief of Medicine & Emergency Care. Prior to this he was the Clinical Director of Specialist Medicine for MTW and Medical Site Lead at Tunbridge Wells Hospital.
