Professional Profile

Dr Browning joined the Trust in 1999 having qualified MBBS from St Bartholomew’s Hospital medical school in 1988.  He trained in Cardiac surgery prior to starting his intended career in anaesthetics and Intensive care completing his early training at the Magill department of anaesthesia at The Westminster and Charing Cross  and Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals before moving across town to finish his training at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospitals.  He was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 1994.

He spent 9 months with the London HEMS attending severely injured patients all over the capital and followed this with a year at Great Ormond Street hospital, increasing his knowledge and experience in paediatric anaesthesia and intensive care.

Since his consultant appointment, he has been lead for children’s anaesthesia at MTW with a special interest in anaesthesia for complex orthopaedic and ophthalmic surgery.

He has been actively involved in the enhanced recovery and immediate peri-operative care of patients following major surgery. The Cardiopulmonary exercise pre-assessment clinics ensure that patients are not only in the best shape to cope with the rigours of major surgery but also have an achievable rehabilitation plan to get them back to normal as quickly as possible.

He continues to develop this area of expertise and is active in research in this area.
