Professional Profile

Dr Jay Halbert is a substantive paediatric consultant at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. He completed his specialist training at Great Ormond Street, University College London and Cambridge University Hospitals before working as the clinical lead for children’s cancer at the Royal London Hospital. He is the current chair of the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) Shared Care Group.

Dr Halbert runs both a general paediatric and specialist oncology and haematology clinic at Tunbridge Wells Hospital. He also has a specialist interest in emergency medicine and digital health including hospital at home and remote patient monitoring. Dr Halbert has a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and experience working in and establishing child healthcare programmes in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Dr Halbert is passionate about providing safe, effective, compassionate and high quality care and has worked as an advisor to the UK Healthcare Regulator (CQC), Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Dr Halbert strongly advocates a holistic and integrated approach to support children reaching their full potential. He is the Clinical Lead for Child Mental Health at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust and a committee member on the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Guideline for Self-harm.

Dr Halbert is a Principal Investigator for several paediatric studies and is regularly invited to present his research and quality improvement projects at national and international conferences for which he has received numerous awards. He strives to practice evidence-based medicine and is author to several publications in peer reviewed journals and book chapters. Dr Halbert is an instructor and medical director for a variety of paediatric resuscitation courses including APLS, EPLS, GIC, NLS and ETAT. He also enjoys teaching on a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses including a Masters of Tropical Paediatrics and Diploma of Tropical Medicine.
