Five members of Project Wingman have now moved from the skies to join Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW) and become a permanent part of the MTW team. They have taken on a variety of roles across the Trust, working within the Ultrasound Department, Estates and Facilities teams, as well as helping with some of the new projects implemented during the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Project Wingman arrived at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW) in May 2020, delivering first class support to staff at MTW, by providing them with a luxury space to rest and recharge before, during and after shifts. Over the last six months, the Project has been delivered by over 40 furloughed and grounded cabin crew volunteers.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, MTW has also welcomed over 100 students to the Trust  who  joined MTW through the student paid placement deployment scheme organised by Health Education England. MTW is delighted to have now welcomed back 14 nurses, 14 midwifes and four allied health professionals as substantive employees.

The Covid-19 pandemic has also seen 14 healthcare professionals, who had long since stepped back or retired from providing patient care, return to work at MTW by gaining temporary professional registrations. Many of these individuals continue to work for the Trust to provide vital support to MTW to ensure we continue to deliver outstanding service to our patients.

In the last few weeks, MTW launched its very own Graduate scheme – a two year programme providing successful graduates with training towards a Level 5 Chartered Management Institute qualification and a fast-track route into hospital management.

MTW is also currently holding a number of virtual recruitment events to expand the team at the Trust, including a virtual staff nurse recruitment programme for its Medicine directorate on Saturday 28 November.

Cheryl Lee, Director of Workforce commented: “We are extremely grateful to all members of the Project Wingman team, students and retired healthcare professionals who have joined us and provided vital support during the ongoing pandemic.

“We are delighted to be able to welcome a number of these individuals as substantive members of staff and I know they will continue to make a great contribution to the work we undertake here at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

“With the launch of our new graduate scheme and our virtual recruitment events, it’s a busy time for our HR colleagues who are working hard to expand our team at the Trust and ensure we continue to deliver a first class service to our patients”.
