Club cricketers from across Kent have ‘braved the shave’ to raise over £6,000 for the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Charitable Fund.

Clubs including Invicta Cricket Club (CC); Sevenoaks CC and Tunbridge Wells CC rallied together over social media to take part in the mass head shave with over 20 people losing their locks in exchange for donations.

Dave Smith, coach at Invicta Cricket Coaching and cricket professional at Sevenoaks School, organised the fundraiser and said: “The event was a way of saying thanks to all the incredible NHS staff that are going to work night and day to look after those in need.

It is very important to me to support our local NHS during what is a highly pressurized time for the staff.”

Dave currently plays for Tunbridge Wells CC 1st XI and his two year old daughter was born at Tunbridge Wells Hospital.

Laura Kennedy, Fundraising Manager for the NHS Charity, said: “We are really grateful to Dave and his team of fundraisers who have embraced the hair clippers to support our charity.

The money raised will strengthen our local response to the Covid-19 pandemic and we are so thankful to the local community for their continuing support at this time.”
