Patients visiting the Kent Oncology Centre at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust are in for an artistic treat. Nine large wall murals are now brightening up the walls of the Oncology Centre, thanks to the generosity of Maidstone Hospital League of Friends and the dedication of Trust staff.

One of the key players in kick starting the project, Karen Rich, Deputy Radiotherapy Manager said: “It all started about two years ago when I thought our walls in Oncology looked a bit bare.  So I contacted League of Friends here in Maidstone Hospital and they agreed to fund this colourful project.  I am delighted to see we now have nine beautiful murals depicting peaceful outdoor and countryside scenes.

“The feedback from patients this week has been very positive and I am delighted to say our staff love them too”.

Maidstone Hospital League of Friends has contributed over £2 million to the Trust in the last 10 years predominantly raised by its shop within the foyer of Maidstone Hospital. Gareth Owen, Chair of League of Friends, said he was really pleased to be able to help the oncology team. “We traditionally donate money towards much needed clinical apparatus but this is a very good example of providing something entirely different, and at the same time, we can see how it helps patients and staff in their everyday lives”.
