sexual-health-teamToday (12 September), marks the start of Sexual Health Week 2016. The focus for this year’s event is looking at raising awareness about the importance of testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), encouraging condom use and busting some common myths.

In 2015, there were more than 435,000 STI diagnoses in England, and rates across the UK remain high compared to other countries in western Europe. It’s not just young people at risk of STIs; diagnoses among older age groups have been increasing in recent years – it can be difficult for people of any age to talk openly about using condoms or getting tested.

During the week, MTW has lots of activities taking place around West Kent. Our Sexual Health Outreach Service is providing STI testing in the community, while the GUM clinic at Maidstone Hospital is offering walk-in services. You can find out where and when our clinics take place here .

This week, our outreach team will be at:

Monday 12th – Mid Kent College, Maidstone
Tuesday 13th – Colebrook Tunbridge Wells
Wednesday 14th – Hadlow College, Freshers’ Week
Thursday 15th – YMCA Tunbridge Wells
Friday 16th – Wrotham School Sevenoaks
Friday 16th – Trinity Foyer (eve) Maidstone

The outreach team will be running interactive STI games at colleges and schools, and giving away free condoms and C Cards.

Alternatively call 01622 225713 to make an appointment at one of our clinics to get a free confidential STI screening and condoms – mention the word ‘SAFER’ to staff on the desk to receive a freebie!
