The Trust is responsible for the transport of patients, specimens, medical staff and equipment to and from its sites at Maidstone hospital and Tunbridge Wells hospital at Pembury. It is a busy and fast moving service, which on average coordinates and transports 280 patients a day as well as providing transport for a number of local area Primary Care Trusts for additional therapies.
The service operates within an environment where demand for patient transport is high and budgets are fixed. Over the last 12 months, the Trust has identified and implemented a number of key changes to increase its efficiency in terms of cost and productivity, and to ensure best practice.
To further complement this efficiency based initiative, the Trust has also invested in a state-of-the-art vehicle tracking system across its fleet of 18 ambulances. The satellite enabled technology provides the service and patients with instant benefits including an efficient method of filtering and prioritising transport requests; up-to-the-minute location reports; and access to live traffic feeds.
