Library Collection Development Policy - Underlying Aims

The Trust libraries and its website and intranet links aim to provide collections of resources which embrace all the following criteria:

  • Matching changing needs of all specialties, course resource lists
  • Close liaison and involvement with library users and key staff
  • Evaluation before purchase
  • Currency, linking knowledge development rates for different specialties
  • Variety of formats, appropriate to learning requirements for different topics
  • Balance between electronic and print, online and offline
  • Value for money

The principles are included with the library and knowledge services strategy, and detailed considerations of individual resources are not normally  considered in formal meetings.
